Day turned into night, temperatures turned cooler in cities and villages teemed with amateur stargazers.

The total eclipse started in India on Wednesday morning and moved eastward across Nepal, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Vietnam, China and parts of the Pacific. Millions cast their eyes towards the heavens to catch a rare view of the sun's corona.

Cloud cover in some areas prevented people from fully savoring the phenomenon. Still, many were awed.

"It was pitch black like midnight," said O'Rourke, standing in People's Square with what appeared to be a crowd of thousands.

"Definitely not disappointed we came. Of course it would have been much better with nice weather, blue skies. But still it was a great experience, it was a lot of fun." he said. Photo Viewing the eclipse in pictures »

WASHINGTON (CNN) — Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said Friday she was only recently made aware of reconciliation talks between U.S. diplomats and Sunni insurgents in Iraq, and she promised to keep the Iraqi government informed about such discussions in the future.

“We intend to make sure the Iraqi government is fully informed of any such activities,” Clinton told reporters following a meeting with Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki. “We want a close working relationship.”

Iraqi officials said Friday they were investigating reports of the meetings, calling them a violation of Iraqi sovereignty. The reports, which detail a supposed signed agreement between the Americans and insurgents, have angered Iraqis as they seek to establish their authority in the wake of the withdrawal of American troops from Iraqi cities.

Al-Maliki said he was “satisfied” with what he heard from Clinton, who assured him the United States would not negotiate with any extremists who killed Iraqi or American troops.

Ali al-Jubouri, identified as the secretary-general of the Political Council of the Iraqi Resistance, told Al-Jazeera his group held talks with U.S. officials in March and in May and signed a “protocol to organize the negotiation process and a document that included U.S. recognition of the Iraqi resistance.”

The State Department acknowledged unspecified meetings took place months ago but said the Iraqi government knew about them at the time.

Deputy State Department Spokesman Robert Wood said Friday that the meetings were part of a wide range of U.S. contacts with Iraqis to promote political reconciliation.

“The meetings in question occurred months ago and with the knowledge of officials within the Iraqi government,” Wood said. “Having spent the past six years helping Iraq build a representative and effective democratic government, the last thing we would do is take any action intended to undercut it.”

A senior administration official told CNN that embassy officials did sign a protocol document with the group about logistics for the third round of talks. When the talks were scrapped, he said, the document was leaked.

But Clinton, who said the talks were “only recently brought to my attention,” said the State Department “did not authorize” the signing such a protocol.

U.S. diplomatic and military officials have negotiated with Sunni insurgents in the past with some success, most notably persuading Sunni tribal leaders to turn against al Qaeda, which has been cited as a key factor for the reduction of violence in 2007.

The reports of the meetings come as al-Maliki wrapped up a visit to the United States after meeting President Barack Obama on Wednesday.

On Friday Clinton held two hours of talks with al-Maliki about the future strategic partnership between the U.S. and Iraq, in which they agreed to cooperate on a wide range of issues, ranging from education to trade to tourism.

Dear Sukunya,

How long has it been since you expressed your creativity?  In the daily rush to meet deadlines and fulfill obligations, our creative self often gets shuffled to the sidelines.  And that's not a good thing as our creativity is so closely connected to our sense of self-fulfillment.  Creativity helps us to experience the magical and playful side of life.  It lets us explore our passions and express ourselves artistically.

In my case, my preferred creative passion is my garden.  I love spending time tending to my rose plants.  They delight my senses and fill me with much joy and satisfaction.  It is a very grounding pastime, and one that I also get to share with others as well by spending many glorious hours talking about our gardening experiences.

Sadly, many people don't consider themselves creative, especially if they don't write, paint or play music.  But that is a limited perspective of creativity.  There are many forms of creative self-expression with different kinds of execution and levels of expertise.  Within each and every one of us exists an artistic being just waiting for the opportunity to shine.  And, Sukunya, that is not to be taken lightly!

Our creative expression touches us on a very personal level.  It can be as simple and spontaneous as singing in the shower or the car.  It can be a playful moment of making up a silly limerick or strumming chords on a guitar, Or it could be a more directed and focused activity such as sewing a quilt, cooking an exceptional meal, or making your home a special place for you and for those close to you to relax and enjoy.

So, Sukunya, how do you express your creativity, and when was the last time you did that?  If it's been a while, I hope this letter will serve as an inspirational reminder to exercise your inner artist!  Just open yourself up to the possibilities around you, and hopefully you will find ways to explore, nurture and enjoy your creative side!

                Until next time,

JANUARY THROUGH DECEMBER 2009

A TIME TO RELAX AND ENJOY LIFE, TO EXPRESS YOUR CREATIVITY AND EXHILARATING ENTHUSIASM.

Your 3 Personal Year

The year 2009 marks a period during which you can develop your creative, inspirational or imaginative ideas. Look for opportunities to use your special abilities and work toward substantial accomplishments and possibly financial rewards as well. When you can combine your executive skills and leadership talent with the kind of exciting career possibilities that may occur this year, you may be able to increase your status and improve your reputation. Your charisma may have a special impact at this time. Some of the projects that you have been working on during the last few years may expand and develop in new and exciting directions in 2009, partly because of new and often dramatic influences and partly because of the dynamic nature of your commitment.

Be very careful how you express your feelings. Be as honest and open as you can. Don't emphasize your power or ability to dominate situations. This is likely to rub people the wrong way. Emphasize your optimism and enthusiasm, along with your spirit of camaraderie. Turn people on with your dynamic spirit and sense of fun and delight. Enjoy an active social life. Make special time for your old friends and some of the exciting new friends you meet, too. If you have the time, you may enjoy traveling to some offbeat places.

Monthly Highlights For 2009

The Personal Year is an important yearly influence. This influence, though, is expressed with a somewhat different emphasis each month. Be sure to take the monthly emphasis into account, too, when considering the best approach to take to each month's events. Monthly highlights for 2009 are given next, followed by detailed descriptions for each month.

Make the most of the exciting project opportunities in February. In March, spend time with special friends and possibly the people in your family with whom you are close. Be prepared for some strong expressions of emotion in June but try to keep your relations intact. Some friendly social affairs are probable in August and some exciting gatherings in September. Dynamic social or business activity is due in November. A festive and cheerful holiday can be expected in December.

JANUARY 2009

Your 4 Personal Month

Take care of the work that comes your way in January and the year will get off to a positive start. Complete the required details on some of your ongoing ventures. Check into the possibility of buying or selling a house, possibly around January 18th. Fulfill your current family obligations and business duties. Get everything in order and take care of any paperwork or legal matters that fall within your jurisdiction on January 22nd or so. Organize your plans in order to move ahead with some of the ideas you had at the end of 2008. Proceed to build the base you're likely to need in continuing the development of these ventures, especially the development of your powers of expression. All your work will be enhanced by using as much creative input as possible. Friends who are approached tactfully may contribute some imaginative ideas or open some significant doors. Take care of any health matters that need attention. Enjoy socializing, particularly from January 26th on.

The New Moon in Libra on the 29th brings the month to a close.  This is a good time to forge new and productive friendships with others, but be careful not to give away your own power.  Mars enters Scorpio on the 4th where it joins Venus and there could be quite a few "power games" played out in your own circle of friends and colleagues.  There is very little "fire" energy at the moment, so make the most of the Sagittarius Moon at the weekend.  Down tools and play, Sukunya!

Dear Sukunya,

How much do you trust your intuition?  We all possess that small inner voice that warns us when someone or something isn't right, or urges us to do something or go somewhere that wasn't planned.  Yet many of us are taught to ignore our inner voice and to put others' feelings and needs above our own.

My inner voice plays a big role in my work.  While I certainly rely on my astrological knowledge when it comes to creating and interpreting my clients' charts, I also depend on my intuition as well.  I can't tell you how many times I felt an inner nudge to look at some aspect of a chart more closely, or to share some sudden thought or idea with my clients.  Over the years, I have learned to trust my intuition and listen to it without reservation and, so far, it has never steered me wrong.

My friend, when you learn to listen to your inner voice and trust your own intuition, you begin to trust yourself and your own judgment, and that makes you feel more confident and secure in the knowledge that you are truly in charge of your life.  If you still don't feel so comfortable with your intuition, you can always begin with smaller things.  For example, consult your inner voice about which foods are the best choices for you at mealtimes, or what clothes will give you the most positive presence and outlook for the day.

For bigger decisions, take time to close your eyes and take a few deep breaths while you concentrate on the situation and ask your inner self for guidance.  Remain open to any thoughts, sounds, or images that come to you and use them to help you make choices.

You may make some mistakes, Sukunya, but as you continue to access your own inner wisdom, you will get better and better at trusting what comes to you, and you will begin to trust your intuition to direct you on the right path.

Eventually you will find that accessing your inner voice comes as naturally as breathing.  And trusting your intuition in all aspects of your life will be far more useful to you, and far more satisfying, than any advice that could be offered by others.

Sukunya, in every situation there is an opportunity for you to experience the deep satisfaction of trusting in yourself and your intuitive abilities.  I hope that you are already using your intuition every day, and I hope that you will use it to guide you as you read your Health, Wealth and Happiness report for the week.

                Until next time,

This is a truly portentous week as on the 8th Jupiter, planet of good fortune and personal growth, resumes direct motion after four months of backtracking.  Anything that was put on hold in early May will make positive progress now.  Better yet, power planet Pluto also turns direct.  This is a major astrological event and after 12 years moving through Sagittarius, in December Pluto will finally move on to Capricorn.  Again, Sukunya you may be casting a backwards glance to what happened in early April to make sense of current events.

Dear Sukunya,

With our hectic schedules and many pressures stress can become our biggest enemy.  Stress makes us tired and haggard, not to mention the belly fat that the hormones caused by stress can create!  As you may remember, I use Yoga to help me become calm and balanced and reduce my stress levels.  And I also use meditation.  If you are feeling overwhelmed and stressed, or you can't seem to calm your mind, you might want to consider meditation, too.

Now, most of my clients, when they hear the word, meditation, throw their hands up and say, "I can't spend hours sitting on a pillow like a yogi."  I tell them that they don't have to meditate for hours on end to calm their minds and get relief from stress.  What I have discovered is that, when they try out some of the suggestions I share with them for meditation, they come back to me expressing surprise and pleasure that meditation turned out to be far easier and more fun than they had expected, and very effective, too.

Sukunya, I believe that anyone can find an easy and effective way to utilize the mind soothing practice of meditation.  Meditation is simply a way to gently open the inner communication between your mind and your body.  It only requires a small amount of effort, at first, to try several things and discover what works best for you.

If you are a highly active person and have difficulty sitting still you may find moving meditations a better fit.  Yoga, Qi gong and Tai chi are all excellent ways to stay in motion and calm the mind at the same time.  Plus, moving meditations have the added advantage of building muscle tone and improving balance.

Focused meditations are also useful and can be done for hours, if desired, or even a few moments at a time with excellent results.  This type of meditation calls for focusing on something like an image, a thought, a word, or on the breath.  One that I like to use is a breathing meditation.  It involves closing your eyes and slowly breathing in and out.  As you count, 1, breath in, 2, breath out, 3, breath in, and so on, until you reach 10 and start the process over.

It sounds effortless doesn't it?  But you would be surprised at how easily the mind strays from something so simple.  If your mind wanders while you are trying this, don't fuss at yourself.  Just gently bring your mind back to the task and start over.  You might be surprised that just 3-5 minutes of this per day is enough to make a big difference.  And it is a handy tool for emergency use when sudden stress arises.  Excusing yourself to the bathroom for 3 minutes is a way to sneak in some mind calming breathing without anyone ever being the wiser, and it can help you cope better and make better decisions under pressure.

Sukunya, I feel sure that if you experiment you will find a meditation technique that works well for you so that you can face each day with a calm mind and a peaceful heart.

                  Blessings,

On the 1st the Moon in Libra moves from Venus to Mercury like some kind of celestial butterfly.  You'll be feeling rather affectionate, so don't be afraid to show it!  On the 3rd, the Sun and Saturn jostle for space, and it may be a day to plan and scheme rather than actively push ahead.  You'll need even more patience on the 7th when Mars squares up against Jupiter.  But you could get a glimpse of the ideal future if you are alert to the signals, Sukunya.

Dear Sukunya,

I had an experience recently with a client, whom I'll call Liza, and decided to share it with you as it brings to light some useful information.  Liza is a new client, who came to me with some financial questions about some savings she had accumulated.  As she didn't hold a high-paying job, I assumed that she must have used some creative strategies to grow such a healthy savings.  I asked her about this after we completed her reading and she seemed pleased to tell me how she did it.  She said that saving money was actually easier than most people think, even if you don't have a lot to begin with.

Liza feels that one big difficulty people have with savings money is that they often overestimate how much they can realistically save, and as a result, they end up raiding their savings accounts to make ends meet.  To avoid this pitfall, Liza started by saving a very small amount, just a few pounds a week, until she got comfortable with that amount coming out of her paycheck.  And then over time, she added more and more.  She eventually got to the point that she could live comfortably, while continuing to put money aside.

One thing that helped Liza was to set up an automatic deposit into a separate saving account.  With funds going directly from her paycheck to the saving, she didn't have the temptation of having the money passing through her hands.  In addition, she opted not to have an ATM access to her special savings.  In this way, Sukunya, if she wanted to take money out of the account, she would have to deliberately go to the bank to get the money.  This step kept her from raiding her savings on impulse.

Before opening her account, Liza suggested researching interest rates on savings accounts, including on-line and local banks.  This is especially important right now with the fluctuating and dropping interest rates.  It is even a good idea to consider longer term CDs, as their rates are higher.  Once she found the best option, she opened her account and set up an automatic savings draft from her paycheck.  From there she simply let the money accumulate.

Her financial diligence certainly paid off.  In the end, Sukunya, Liza had saved enough money to put a good down payment on her first home.  And as a result, her mortgage payments were far less than her rent had been.  When I asked her what she was going to do with the extra money from her lower monthly housing payment, she replied, "Start a new savings account, of course!"

Sukunya, I hope that these financial tidbits will be helpful to you.  What I like about Liza's story is that it is a reminder that we can always begin saving, and it is proof that saving money provides security and a means to achieve our dreams.  And speaking of dreams, I think it is time to take a look at Your Health, Wealth and Happiness forecast.

Time for a change as Mercury enters sweet-natured Taurus on the 17th followed by the Sun on the 19th.  This to me is the real start of spring, no matter what the weather is doing!  You may notice everyone seems to look a bit happier, perhaps because you are too!  On Saturday the 19th it's not advisable to initiate any new project that means a lot to you.  However, on Sunday the Full Moon in Scorpio accompanied by Mercury and Saturn in harmony provides ideas and illumination that will clarify your thoughts.
